1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? Our product uses conventions such as certain camera movements used when displaying a product. For example, when the product is physically small, commercials tend to use a zoom shot to focus on the brand name and the product itself. Comparisons are also included in order to display how the product of the commercial is more beneficial. My commercial incorporates both of these conventions as well as a stop-motion scene where the pens appear to be moving on their own. We didn't add any dialogue so that the audience could focus on what was being shown. It represents social groups such as writers or artists who use pens in their hobbies or jobs. Utilizing smooth pens can be very beneficial for them as well since people experience issues with pens that run out of ink quickly. 2. My Commercial

This the my first ever project that I did with my group for Mediastudies. It was a fun experience to make with two of my friends. However, I can definitely see some room for improvement in the future after seeing other commercials for comparison. Overall, its was fun to make and use different types of shots to incorporate into our commercial. Since I was the cameraperson, I feel that I could improve my skills. I would also like to advance in editing for future projects. Making music is also a small hobby of mine, so I could possibly create background music for future projects as well. Regardless, the outcome of this project ended up being decent. Even though it could've been better, it still reached our expectations. Hopefully I make a good amount of progress on upcoming projects.

Editing Blog: The Grand Finale

After the main process of putting together the scenes for my group's commercial, we added some final touches. Some scenes needed touching up such as cutting off unusual parts. We also needed to speed up/slow down certain scenes. Madelyn and I went to help another friend to help her finish her commercial. We went out to the track field since she was filming a commercial on Nike. Meanwhile, Kennedy stayed back and added final touches to the commercial. When we came back, we all collectively went over the commercial and gave our suggestions on any more necessary edits. When I looked over it, I noticed that the overall length of the commercial was one second short of the required time. So, to fix this, I suggested that we make the second scene a little longer to fit the time frame. In the end, the overall length of the commercial ended up being 27 seconds long. We all listened to the song a couple of times to observe if it fit well with our content. The song chosen had no lyrics and w

In order to start editing, I sent all the scenes my group will be using to a group chat so that my partners and I could put them together on a computer. Since I was in charge of props, recording, and Madelyn was the one doing the acting as well as working on the storyboard with me, Kennedy did the editing on her laptop using an editing website. I went over the product and noticed that a scene was a bit sped up, so I suggested that the scene be made a little longer to fit within the commercial nicely. The music that was chosen was upbeat to make it more engaging for the audience. The commercial for my group also did not contain dialogue, so the music had to play throughout the whole commercial. For the final scene, I had suggested that the logo should appear through a transition first and then have the white background come in. It gave the commercial its finishing touch and made it seem more professional. For one of the other scenes, a shot had to be removed and replaced with another o

On October 5, 2021, my group and I were able to finish the rest of our filming needed for our commercial. Before we started, we set everything up and had a small snack break to loosen up and relax. Then, we re-filmed the third scene because we weren't able to finish the jump shot correctly on our previous day of filming. We managed to film it once without doing it over again so we moved on to our fourth scene where we filmed a stop-motion scene of all of the pens getting in line. At first, it didn't turn out well due to the poor timing but after a few tries, we managed to speed it up and produce a stop-motion scene. We didn't have to film anything for our fifth and final scene because that will just be a blank screen with the logo on it so all that needs to be done is editing for the commercial to be complete. After finishing, we took a selfie to celebrate our completion and then started heading back to class. Once we arrived, we discussed what software we should use for e
