Production Blog: First Day Filming at the bench
On Spetember 29, 2021 my group and I started filming for our commercial. The area we went to had very few, if any, people so it wasn't difficult to make sure no one else was in the background. We took our storyboard to see which scenes we should film first and decided to go in chronological order because we were going to use only one location anyway. For costumes, everyone remembered to wear their regular day-to-day clothing to make it seem more casual than formal. We also took pictures of everyone's clothing to make sure we remember to wear the same ones for the next day of filming. Before we started filmong we forgot to bring one of our props: blank paper. I had blank lined paper with me but we decided to go back to our classroom to retrieve a few sheets of blank printer paper. After that, we started recording the first scene, with me as the cameraman, and after a few takes we chose one that turned out the best and put them in a separate file for editing. The second scene took longer to perfect because we were trying to use a tracking shot and then a zoom right after so the timing with the actor and camera wasn't lining up. We decided to go a bit slower for practice and then after a few tries, we managed to get two takes that seemed good to use. We were filming with my phone specifically since it had the better camera quality out of the three of us, but I realized that controlling camera movement with a phone can be a little difficult when your hands aren't completely still. After filming the first two scenes, we moved on to the third scene where we will be using a jump shot to show the progress of a drawing that was done by our other group member. When we recorded part of scene 3, we ran out of time so we had to wrap up filming for the first day.
