Intro Blog Again

My name is Tasmia Kowcher, a sophomore at Fort Lauderdale high school taking the AICE Media Studies AS Level as one of my eight courses. I enjoy doing artistic things, such as drawing, painting, photography, alongside writing and reading. One of the reasons why I chose to take this class is to expand my artistic ability further by learning more about the film-making process and utilizing it.

As a child, I had a small hobby of drawing and coloring as it made me use my imagination and express myself on paper. Drawing is probably one of the few hobbies that stuck with me as I grew up, and probably will be in the future. Filming actually became an interest around the age of 12 where I used an editing app to make fantasy videos with my cousins who starred as actors. The only difference back then was our lack of planning. We would have our families meet up at a gathering and go off to a place where we could film with the audio being heard. I would direct and tell each of my cousins what to do and how the timing should be, maintaining stable arm movements as well since I was also the cameraman. Editing was also another task I had to do and enjoyed experimenting with different special effects and music. At the time I wasn't experienced with this type of software, so it seemed like an accomplishment when random explosions or freeze rays would show up on the edited videos.

As I grew older, I took up new interests such as dancing, K-pop, anime, K-dramas, etc. In an odd way, it helped me shape myself as each of these forms of entertainment had strong meanings in their content. It also expanded my interest in various genres like ballad songs, which I never enjoyed as a kid since I always had a negative viewing of sad songs. Now that I enjoy various types of songs/shows after giving them a try, I feel like it made me more open-minded and wanting to explore more, which brings me to the full-on film-making process.

When choosing my AICE courses, Media Studies caught my attention as I read the description. Photography and filming always seemed interesting to learn in my opinion. And since I had a cousin who took the class the previous year, I was able to have a better understanding of the work they had to do. This also gave me an excuse to finally get a phone as I never had one until this year. Recording and keeping in contact with group members would be more convenient when I have a phone, and thankfully, I was able to get one with a good-quality camera to start AICE Media Studies.
