Production: Music
Starting off the Final Task production with music, my group and I had a discussion and made a few decisions. One of my group mates will be looking into royalty-free music. It was later brought up that in case none of the royalty-free music fit, I could make a custom one. I have experience with developing music which will be useful for this task. Thus, the music will partially fall under my responsibility.
Alongside my courses, I am also in a Music Tech class in which everyone learns how to utilize a digital audio workstation (DAW). The DAW I will be utilizing is called SoundTrap. it provides me with multiple features in which I can freely insert loops and edit to what it is deemed fitting. Since I already have a general idea of what vibe I want the music to be, it will become less of an obstacle. This means that I will not have to worry about going through every single loop to see what I should choose.
To start off with the mysterious vibe, I have decided that I will use a loop called Dark Chi for when the scenes are less action-packed. It fits the mood of quiet but dramatic quite nicely and leaves the feeling of being on the edge of your seat. Using the automation tool, I can edit it to make it sound more hallow. To do this, there are three options under this tool to choose from: pan, sweep, and volume. In order for it to sound hollow and mysterious, I will use the sweeping option. This option comes with subcategories, of which I will choose the hollow one. When adjusting so it is descending, it gives it the illusion that as the audience is introduced to the library scene, the music slowly increases in volume as if they themselves have entered the library.
As I finish adjusting this loop, in order for it to not sound lackluster, I will add a steady beat that the DAW provides me with under the Drums options. There is a variety to choose from, so finding a subtle one that will smoothly fit alongside an intense but quiet base will properly convey the mood the opening sequence is trying to portray. As the first part of the song dies down, it will transition to a more quickening beat as the running scenes are shown and the sound of the drums will start overshadowing the chords to express intensity. With all of this coming together, I was able to develop a backup song in case none of the royalty-free music works out.
